Programs

Rediscovery, Inc. uses a wrap-around approach to serving the youth in its care. In addition to two different residential programs, the group home and the independent living program, Rediscovery, Inc. also provides its residents with educational and vocational support from the Alternative Education Program, a comprehensive Clinical Care Program, and after they leave Rediscovery, access to all our support services through an Alumni Program.

Rediscovery House Group Home

Our group home houses 12 young men between the ages of 16 and 19 who are preparing to leave state custody. Residential caregivers are on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide structure and guidance to the youth. The house provides a stable and safe environment for the young men to come home to, while also allowing them to integrate into the community. The young men are allowed and encouraged to spend time in the community so they can learn how to appropriately interact with others and follow community standards. Each young man in the program is paired with an advocate, a staff member assigned to help him with all aspects on his life, who meets weekly with their assigned youth and helps them with a variety of tasks.

Independent Living Program

Our independent living program serves young men and women between 18 and 21. The program has no maximum capacity and we are currently expanding the program. Youth live in apartments scattered throughout Metrowest Boston. The youth put into practice the life skills they learned in our, or other, group homes by living in their own apartment, taking responsibility for cleaning and basic maintenance, and budgeting their time and money. To support them while they are learning to live on their own, Rediscovery has outreach workers who meet with the youth weekly to discuss their successes and struggles.

Alternative Education Program

The alternative education program includes GED instruction, academic tutoring, vocational training and placement, financial education and life skills assistance, with a focus progressing towards higher education, vocational training and career goals. Youth in Rediscovery’s care can receive the level of support that is most appropriate for them. Youth mainstreamed in the public schools receive academic tutoring in difficult subjects. Youth who have decided to pursue their GED are taught by our Alternative Education Director. The Alternative Education Director also helps youth set goals for their future including plans for further education and careers. Youth then enter our special Service Placement Program (SPP). The program is designed to help youth prepare to join the workforce by teaching them important basic employment skills. Youth can learn how to write a resume, interview for jobs successfully, explore career options through paid employment or volunteer work, or investigate higher education options. The Alternative Education Program also offers a Financial Education Program which gives youth a basic financial education in such areas as budgeting, taxes, maintaining good credit, understanding loans, knowing their rights as tenants, and how to invest for long-term financial goals.

Clinical Care Program

All youth in Rediscovery programs are required to attend therapy regularly. Through a partnership with Children’s Charter, a specialty trauma clinic, we are able to offer individual, group, and family therapy, as well as medical and psychiatric evaluations. A part-time Clinical Coordinator helps to integrate services between the two agencies and also provides clinical supervision for the staff. The Clinical Coordinator educates the staff on clinically appropriate responses to youth who have experienced significant trauma earlier in their lives.
