Lily: A Success Story
Lily has overcome remarkable odds to get to where she is today. Her father died when she was a young child and she grew up with her mother and grandfather. During her junior and senior year of high school she juggled schoolwork with taking care of her grandfather during his final illness. After his death her mother was unable to take care of her and she went to a foster home. Despite being devastated by her grandfather’s death and unhappy in her foster home she graduated from high school in June of 2006. Shortly after graduation she moved to Rediscovery’s Independent Living Program.
When she came to Rediscovery Lily was unable to keep a job for any length of time, refused to consider therapy, didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life and suffered from high stress and insomnia. Working with her outreach worker Lily found a job at Payless Shoe Source and has already stayed longer than any of her previous jobs. She has also decided on a career path. After a short time attending community college, Lily opted for more hands on job training and joined Year Up, a one-year intensive training program for urban young adults where she is training to become an Executive Assistant.
Her job, along with an inheritance, has allowed Lily to purchase a car and pay for insurance herself. She also invested some of her inheritance for the future, putting into practice some of what she learned in Rediscovery’s Financial Literacy Program.
Another huge change for Lily since she started at Rediscovery is her acceptance of a therapist/life coach. Although she was at first resistant to the idea, her outreach worker convinced her to give it a try and now Lily enthusiastically attends sessions. She has been able to reduce her stress levels, sleep better at night and learn how to advocate for herself. The future is looking bright for Lily with a new career path, increased financial acumen and new coping skills. We are sure that we will hear great things from her in the future.
Fallon Community Health Plan Presents Grant to Rediscovery

On February 1st, Rediscovery was presented with a check from the Fallon Community Health Plan for $15,000 to expand the clinical services in Rediscovery's Independent Living Program. Rediscovery was chosen as one of 5 grant recipients from over 80 applicants.
The grant allowed Rediscovery to hire a part-time clinician to provide outreach to Independent Living (IL) youth who struggle with mental health issues. The clinician not only works with clients one on one, but helps connect them to other mental health service they might need. The addition of a clinician to the IL team will enhance the clinical expertise of the program and allow Rediscovery to more effectively serve youth. We are so excited about the new position and want to give a big "thank you" to Fallon Community Health Plan for making it possible.
