Elin: A Success Story
Rediscovery is always pleased to see the long term effects of our work with youth. Recently we were contacted by Elin, the mother of one of the first youth to live with Rediscovery after Arden O’Connor founded the organization. She had this to say about Rediscovery: “Thank you so very much for giving me the insight into the program as it is today. It has flourished since my son graduated and I’m so happy to see this.
I can’t say enough about how appreciative I am to Arden and the program for my son’s success in life. After my divorce, my young son ended up in foster care and in rehab for alcohol/drug problems at a time when neither I nor my ex could handle him. Between his wonderful social worker, Jackie and Arden they watched over him daily and saw to him succeeding in this program. He earned his GED and graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography. He also learned coping/life learning skills to succeed in life. It wasn’t easy through all those years, but I will never forget Rediscovery for believing in my son and helping him.”
After leaving Rediscovery, Michael spent two years in California pursuing his photography career before moving back to Massachusetts. At 23 he is now a self-sufficient adult ready to do wonderful things with his life.
Rediscovery relies on donations from the public for all of our programs. Private donations also give Rediscovery flexibility to pursue new programs that can greatly benefit our youth. We are so grateful to all of our donors for their support and encouragement. The good news is that donations of all sizes are impactful:
$75 can provide school supplies for one youth for one year
$100 can provide a youth with a professional interviewing suit
$200 can provide basic apartment set-up
Or consider becoming a YouthHarbors Champion and sponsor housing for one homeless youth at the cost of $1,000.
